‘Design in Activism: An exploration of how Design Activism can benefit the social awareness and actions towards resolution of Climate Change, through an AR based activist campaign’ is an exploration into the importance of visual identity and design in activist movements, projects, and campaigns. Moreover, it identifies how Augmented Reality has been used as an invaluable tool for some of these activist projects to be developed, produced, and presented.
The supplement product, titled ‘THE GREATEST THREAT’, is a conceptual augmented reality based design activist campaign, that communicates the severe threat of climate change to civilisation. By creating satirical, ironic, and informative messages based on every day activities and actions, it informs the viewer how their small actions can account to the overall carbon emissions that a certain industry distributes, as well as target large corporations and companies who contribute greatly to these industries carbon footprint, through their business.
Below is the Thesis Defence that was presented in July, 2023, showcasing a brief summary of the research that was conducted for this project, the design methodology, design process, and final design assets. The thesis paper can be read here. This project received an A+ grade.
